Team Preview
Macky Acosta, TG Guillermo and Erwin Cornejo has exhausted their playing years for the Intramuros five but expect Mapua to have another strong finish this year despite their absence. Coming into this season, one name could possibly fill in those three big shoes. Yousef Taha, the 6'8 Filipino-Palestinian behemoth is expected to make heads turn when he debuts with the Cardinals. Already a force to reckon with during the summer when he won the Best Defensive Player award in the Filoil Preseason Tourney, Taha might as well continue what he has started. With the leadership of wily guard Allan Mangahas, the Cardinals have a huge chance of making another Final Four appearance or even farther. With the experience the bigs earned in the PBA D-League, Sarangay and Parala are also expected to play steadily for Mapua, who sorely feel that they could've made the Finals last year but just fell short. Their main focus and goal is to surpass their finish last year as per Head Coach Chito Victolero. They finished as runners-up to NU in the recently concluded Father Martin's Summer Cup. In that season, another rookie in Josan Nimes made sure his presence would be felt in every outing. He almost made 20 markers despite a downfall. A scoring tandem between Ranises and Nimes plus the production of Mangahas will spice things up for the Cardinals who are eyeing one of the two top spots. Debuting as well for the Cardinals this year are Michael Abad from their Team B, JC Cantos, Darell Magsigay and former PCU Dolphin Jumel Chien, who was suppose to suit up last year but was sidelined by a knee injury. Victolero is bent on breaking their 19-year title drought this year. He is also keen in polishing this end game poise most especially in close games. He also said that, "We're in the right track in terms of what we plan to do for the season. Our defense, offense and transition are doing well at this point. "
